Nurse CV example: bullet points, skills and summary
A nurse CV (or nursing resume) must show safe clinical practice, the settings you have worked in and how you contribute to patient outcomes and the team. Recruiters and ward managers check your registration first, then your clinical areas, then evidence that you can handle the acuity and pace of their unit.
Example achievement bullet points
Numbers are illustrative – use your own. Each bullet: action verb + scope + result.
- Delivered care for up to 8 patients per shift on a 28-bed acute medical ward, including IV therapy, wound care and post-operative monitoring.
- Led a falls-prevention initiative with hourly rounding and bed-alarm checks, contributing to fewer falls on the ward over 6 months.
- Acted as nurse in charge on 2–3 shifts a week, coordinating 6 nurses and healthcare assistants and managing admissions and discharges.
- Mentored 5 student nurses through clinical placements; all completed their competencies on schedule.
- Introduced a standardised handover template (SBAR) that shortened shift handover by about 10 minutes and reduced missed information.
- Recognised early signs of deterioration using NEWS2 and escalated promptly, supporting timely transfer to critical care in several cases.

Tips for this CV
Put your registration at the top
Include your registration body and PIN (e.g. NMC in the UK) and its status near your name or in the summary. It is the first thing a nurse recruiter checks.
Name your clinical areas and acuity
Say which specialties, ward sizes and patient ratios you have worked with. "Acute medical ward, 28 beds, 1:8 ratio" tells a manager more than "experienced nurse".
List mandatory training and extra skills
Add a short certificates line: BLS/ILS, venepuncture, cannulation, mentorship, specialist courses. These often decide between two similar candidates.

FAQ
Should a nurse CV include clinical placements?
Yes, especially if you are newly qualified. List each placement with the specialty, length and what you were signed off for. As you gain paid experience, shorten placements to one line each.
How long should a nursing CV be?
Usually two pages for experienced nurses; one page is fine if you are newly qualified. Prioritise recent clinical roles and keep older non-nursing jobs brief.
Is a nurse CV the same as a nursing resume?
In practice yes. "CV" is standard in the UK and Europe, "resume" in the US; both should be concise and achievement-focused. US resumes also list your state licence.
Can I add a photo to my nurse CV?
In the UK and US, leave it out. In some European countries a photo is common. In RezuYes the photo is optional — if you skip it, the design simply has none.
